No! And you should consult with an experienced consumer attorney about how to best dispute all inaccurate information on your credit report.
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you — the consumer — are entitled to dispute any inaccuracies on your credit reports with Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis (and any other consumer reporting agency). Credit disputes have no negative repercussions on your credit score (or otherwise to your credit file). That is true even if your dispute is denied (i.e., if the credit bureaus – rightly or wrongly – verify that information you disputed as inaccurate is, in their view, reporting accurately).
If your dispute is denied and the disputed information should have been removed from your credit files had credit bureaus and furnishers of the inaccurate information conducted “reasonable investigations,” then you have the right to sue each consumer reporting agency and furnisher of inaccurate information in federal court for violations of the FCRA.
On the other hand, a successful dispute will generally positively impact your creditworthiness. In other words, disputing credit report inaccuracies cannot damage your credit score, but it may improve it!
